Hey bro, Name's Josh. I'm 21yr auzzie living in nz. I'm an outrageous fan of ffvii, but i can't seem to get it working on my mbp. Installed parallels, and i can get it going on ePSXe 1.7 (i think) but apparantly it doesnt work according to other people. Are you fan of ffvii? or just ffix? if the former, you should definately do the same sort of thing for ffvii!!!

    Chur,

    Josh

After I finished FFIX I was going to create guides for FFVIII and FFT, but I guess I could do FFVII as well.

I didn't really like it the first time, but it seems that's normal for me. I'm studying Neuromancer at school and I absolutely despised it the first time round.

Download the trial of CrossOver Games and run ePSXe according to the instructions in the post.

There might be a slight jitter though but it's bearable.

I did everything you said, but it still doesn't seem to work for me... I'm using a mac mini and a PAL version of the game, i've already adjusted the region settings! Any suggestions?
  6. neonblue2 6 January 2009 12:51 PM
It can be a real pain to get the PAL version working. First you need to rip it, then you need to apply the PPF patches that you can download here.

I can't remember which one I used though. You'll need some way to run Windows as well.

    @Anonymous (just above)

    1. Check to make sure you're running PCSX 1.6b (and that it's a Universal or Intel binary)

    2. Make sure PCSX 1.6b isn't running under Rosetta

It might also be related to the dynamic recompiler. Make sure it's turned off.

Hi sorry to ask, but I was reading your guide and of course came up to the part where Dali crashes, and I was wondering I run an intel mac how do I find my MCR file and move it to the ePSXe to keep playing? I kind of don't want to lose my current saved data. Thanks

To find the MCR file, navigate to this folder.

    /Users/*shortusername*/Library/Application Support/Pcsx/Memory Cards

Then configure ePSXe to use the PCSX memory card.

im sorry to be a nuisance, but when i run pcsx 1.6, i have all of my configurations set to the ones you showed above. i have cdromboy plugin installed as well, but when i open my FFIX, it just doesnt work. could this be due to my FFIX file is .img? thanks for all the help!
  12. neonblue2 16 May 2009 10:28 PM
Mine is a .img as well so that's not it.

What type of Mac are you using, what are the specs, and what region is the game? If the answer to the last one is "PAL" then you're going to need to patch the disk images.

Applying the correct PPF patch correctly is, unfortunately, very difficult.

its an ntsc game. i just tried to start it up again, but it froze on the first screen. now each time i try running the game again, pcsx quits. im gonna try using the normal disc loader.
  14. Xamorok 16 May 2009 11:14 PM
i just tried a fifth run, and now, without cd rom boy, it starts up, shows the square logo, then shows this screen : http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/6857/picture2g.png
then it force quits. i am sure my settings are the same as yours.
You said in a previous post,
"2. Make sure PCSX 1.6b isn't running under Rosetta

It might also be related to the dynamic recompiler."
How do i check for that? Thanks alot mate for the help.
  15. Xamorok 16 May 2009 11:17 PM

  16. Xamorok 16 May 2009 11:28 PM

regarding transfering it to the epsxe, i did so, donwloaded the plugin it asked me too, but when i try to start it it gives me errors such as No Pixel Format and Missing buffer extension etc. do i have to download additional plugins to the video one?
  19. Anonymous 18 May 2009 11:44 AM
im the same anonymous person as above. would it be of too much trouble to post the settings for epsxe as well? because i have been fiddling with it for about an hour, and i cant find a working plugin etc. thanks mate
  20. neonblue2 18 May 2009 7:20 PM
Here's another case of gruesome irony. I just deleted ePSXe off my computer yesterday in a great cleanup of everything I don't use anymore.

I do remember it could be pretty complicated so I understand where you're coming from.

Here are a few I found while searching Google just quickly.

    1, 2, and 3.

agh that sucks. i have read that only OpenGL 1 works with intel GMAs 950s. Would you happen to have a link for that? because i cant find it anywhere. i have scoured pete's site to no avail
  22. Anonymous 19 May 2009 7:20 AM
ah, finally, salvation. thanks for your help, i finally found it, and im off to the airship! thanks much! hopefully i no longer have to pollute your blog :D

do you know if there are any plugins for pcsx to make the graphics smoother?
  24. neonblue2 19 May 2009 4:53 PM
There aren't any other than the one included.

Someone was writing their own, apparently, but it was never released. Other than that there is the possibility that the newer code for the Windows/Linux version could be ported to Mac OS X but Gil (the developer of Mac PCSX) never released the source code for the Universal version or any of its plugins.

It would require someone with the proper knowledge to create a new plugin.
  25. Anonymous 30 May 2009 5:07 AM
Could you provide suitable download link of FFIX that works on Mac PCSX. I've tried some in bin and img but PCSX says that it doesn't support those formats (but it does when I load up Chrono Cross and Saga Frontier 2). Is there a certain bios I need to use (I'm using SCPH 1001 btw)?. Do i need to configure the software? Help me please!
  26. PatPet 14 June 2009 1:20 AM
I wonder if there is source code of pcsx 1.6 since i wish i could compile the latest pete soft gpu plugin. The one that comes with 1.6 looks really dated.
  27. neonblue2 14 June 2009 12:02 PM
The best you can do is to download the source code to the 1.16 version of the plugin and try and match it up to the current version.

The biggest problem is that the Mac version of the plugin has been altered to work on PPC only. The Universal code has never been released.

    Hi there!

This is all great info, thanks for the effort! I'm at the dali crash so I'm trying to run epsxe 1.7 on my Intel Mac so I can get passed it, using CrossOver Games. I've been able to open up epsxe 1.7, but when I try to run a CD ROM or ISO, I get three error windows: "missing pbuffer extension", "missing render-texture extension" and "no pixel format available". Could you tell me what plug-ins/methods you are using to get epsxe to run correctly with crossover games? Thank you!
  29. Ryan 27 June 2009 3:52 PM
Ok, so i got it to work! I used an older plug in, P.E.Op.S. Windows Soft GPU Version 1.18b, an older Pete's plugin. I used ePSXe version 1.7.0 and I could get passed the Dali crash. I then copied the memory card file to my PSX directory and I'm good to go. Thanks for the info!

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I got the email through my iPod just before I was about to go out.

Then some other stuff happened. Glad you worked it out.

Something to say?
